For scholars, the origin of the lemon is a mystery; its ancestors grew in the undergrowth of Himalayan forests between northeastern India and Burma. The first certain trace of this citrus fruit in the Mediterranean is evidenced by its presence in the gardens of the Andalusian Arabs, probably as a result of trade relations with India.
